What’s on in March for the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast?

We are already heading into the third month of 2016 and it is the beginning of autumn! It is hard to believe that the temperature will start heading downwards. This will not spoil the fun of doing all the activities on offer. There’s the very popular Bleach Festival on the Gold Coast, the start of ‘’Sound of Music’’ at QPAC in Brisbane and the Noosa Festival of Surfing on the Sunshine Coast.

4th – 20th March: Bleach Festival  – CAN’T MISS


Bleach* Festival illuminates, reflects, beams, focuses and most importantly connects art, with community…come with us and challenge the conventional as we strive to change perceptions at Bleach* Festival 2016, 4 – 20 March.

With sophisticated, contemporary and innovative artistic programming, Bleach* Festival is an expression of music, theatre, dance, visual arts, outdoor events and much more.

Bleach* Festival 2016 will feature eight world premiere works created by some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, across three huge weekends.

As the signature annual multi-arts festival of the Gold Coast, we shine a light on our unique creativity and culture by presenting the city in a new way, to new audiences, both locally and internationally as we build towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games and beyond.

Quintessentially Gold Coast, Bleach* Festival celebrates the city’s best artists, welcomes renowned Australian and international collaborators and engages a broad audience through a range of accessible events.

Utilising the Gold Coast’s world famous natural landscapes as unconventional venues, Bleach* Festival is a platform for expression, curated to encourage community ownership and participation, provide legacy building capacity and ultimately play a role amongst the world’s leading arts sector festivals.

10th – 21st  March : Quicksilver & Roxy Pro  


The first event on the men’s and women’s pro surfing calendar, the Gold Coast Pro is a rare chance to catch the stars of world surfing pulling some aerial magic and riding deep in the famed Snapper Rocks barrels. The wide sands and great weather also ensures this is one of the most spectator friendly surfing competitions in Australia.

25th – 28th March: Australian Street Entertainment Championships



This Easter long weekend, Surfers Paradise will once again transform into carnival of laughter and entertainment with the return of the Australian Street Entertainment Championships. See both amateur and professional performers take to stages across Surfers Paradise, all vying for the crowd’s attention. You can even join in the fun and vote for your favourite amateur act in the People’s Choice Award.

There’ll also be the well-known back-flipping daredevils from Australia’s Got Talent, the Flair Riders, performing BMX stunt shows four-times daily on the Surfers Paradise foreshore. Plus, you can see the very best professional street entertainers reinvent and integrate snippets of their acts to craft a spectacular new improvisation show, all live, right before your eyes every single night of the event in the Marquee pitch on the Surfers Paradise Beach. Entry is free; exit is by donation in the hat.

26th – 27th March: Gold Coast Italian Festival

‘Experience life Italian style’ at the Gold Coast Italian Festival in 2016

Prepare to savour the tastes, sights and sounds of Italy when the first annual Gold Coast Italian Festival descends on Broadbeach on the 26th and 27th of March 2016.

Experience a taste of Italy over the Easter long weekend – from fine food and Italian wines to music, family entertainment and fast cars, the Gold Coast Italian Festival will celebrate all the best things about la bella Italia and its dolce vita culture.

Celebrated in Brisbane since 2007, the Italian Festival is set to head to the Coast and paint the town red, white and green. The event organisers are bringing the well-loved Italian food and wine festival to Broadbeach to celebrate its10th anniversary.

Fun for all the family as the Italian Festival welcomes you to the taste of authentic Italian food, entertainment and history. The cultural festival will sit on the oceanfront in Pratten Park, Broadbeach, where street vendors will be serving wood-fired pizza, pasta and delicious gelato, with Italian wines from many regions around Italy.

The Festival aims to promote Italian culture in Australia and around the world and highlight the influence of Italian culture in Australia as a result of immigration and integration. The weekend will be an opportunity to showcase Italian food, wine and culture and to preserve and promote an

The Noosa Festival of Surfing will celebrate its 25th Anniversary in 2016, and it is already shaping up to be bigger and better than ever before. With unprecedented numbers flocking to sign up, it has become necessary to limit competitors to a single age division, a new division has been opened – the Junior Girls’ Under.

11th – 13th March: Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival

Located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival has been a feature event on the Australian Triathlon Calendar for over 22 years.



Mooloolaba triathlon stages a course that is famous for its ocean swim along with the electric buzz in the atmosphere as thousands of triathletes descend on this popular beach town. It is perfect for first timer and seasoned triathletes.

There is something for the whole family including the ASICS Mooloolaba Twilight 5km run, 1k Ocean Swim, Superkidz Triathlon and the Special Tri. The event also features the Mooloolaba ITU Triathlon World Cup, where participants will see some of the biggest names in triathlon swimming the same waters, cycling the same roads, and pounding the same pavement as their own course.

10th March: CMC Music Awards – CAN’T MISS


It’s the hottest ticket for Australia’s country music fans! Your favourite local and international country music stars come out to shine at the CMC Music Awards 2016 live in Brisbane. The world class CMC Music Awards celebrate the music and artists who are most-loved by their dedicated country music fans in Australia.

Held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), some of the biggest names in country music including superstars Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, Australia’s own Adam Harvey, and rising country star Kelsea Ballerini will take to the stage to perform their greatest hits and favourite songs. Live on Thursday 10 March 7.30pm QLD time (8.30pm AEDT) for an exclusive live broadcast only on Foxtel’s Country Music Channel. Face of the channel, Morgan Evans will host the awards.

The world’s favourite musical The Sound of Music is returning to Australia. This critically acclaimed London Palladium production tells the uplifting true story of the von Trapp family’s flight across the mountains and works its magic once again, for young and old alike.

Disney in Concert under the Stars – March 2016


Brisbane Kids (and parents) get excited as the most magical Disney concert event Australia has ever seen makes its way to Brisbane in March to the delight of Disney fans of all ages.

Taking place under the stars and by the river, Australia’s most talented entertainers from pop stars to musical theatre royalty will perform on the Riverstage and take the audience on a wonderful journey through some of Disney’s most loved songs of all time. Ricki Lee, David Campbell, Lucy Durack and Harrison Craig will perform all time classic Disney hits from movies such as The Lion King, Frozen, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and so many more.

Making the concert even more enchanting is the fact that the entire family can take a picnic blanket, or pre-purchase a hamper pack, and sit comfortably under the stars as they are swept away by the magic of the Disney classics.
