What’s in my bag: Spending a weekend in Southeast Queensland

By admin | February 21, 2017

Southeast Queensland- whether it’s the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, or the Gold Coast- is the perfect weekend getaway for locals and interstate travellers alike. The weather is almost always beautiful, with warm winter temperatures and hazy hot summer days, and the water is always refreshing. Surrounded by beautiful beaches, buzzing nightlife, and great tourist attractions, Southeast Queensland is the perfect getaway for romantics, couples, a group of mates, and families alike.

Packing a bag for a weekend getaway can be tricky- you don’t want to overpack, especially if you are trying to fit everything into a carry on bag. Thankfully, Southeast Queensland is relatively warm all year round, meaning you can avoid packing bulky jackets and jumpers.

For the Ladies

Kaftans, maxi dresses, shorts, swimwear and some active wear are all you really need for your next SEQ getaway. Keep things casual with denim shorts and a short-sleeved top for daytime and dress up a kaftan or maxi dress with nice sandals or heels like wedges for an evening out. If you are spending the day at the beach, use the same kaftan to cover up your swimmers. We also recommend bringing a pair of trainers, leggings, and an athletic tank top for morning walks on the beach or hiking in the hinterland. A light jumper or leather jacket are appropriate for winter, as temperatures do drop at night and a thin long sleeved blouse or jeans are good extras if you have some space.

For the Gents

Boardies are the name of the game in Southeast Queensland as they are an acceptable casual wear item during the day. Pack two pairs of boardies and a light cotton t-shirt or singlet for spending the day in the beach or wandering the shops and bring a pair of chinos, a nice dress shirt, and closed toes shoes like dress shoes or loafers for an evening out, especially if you are thinking of hitting the club scene, as a strict dress code is enforced. If you are thinking of getting active, we recommend a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and trainers as well as a broad brimmed hat for staying sun smart. A pair of jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt, or a light jumper are the perfect additions for the cooler winter months.
