5 smoothies to get you ready for summer

Summer is approaching, which is great news. Warmer days mean the summer shorts are soon coming out of the cupboard, are you ready?

Don’t  worry if you’re not, because we have some great suggestions of really easy steps you can take to get your body fit for summer.


Why are juices and smoothies all the rage right now?

Firstly, they are so easy and convenient, weather you have a large commute in the morning, or an army of kids to prepare for the day; you can plan in a quick and easy smoothie to gulp down.

Secondly, the amazing thing about smoothies is that you can get all the nutrition you need in a normal meal and blend it up into a tasty drink! This will keep you fuller for longer and also sustain your energy levels throughout the day.


Here we have the top 5 smoothies for getting you fit and ready for the beach this summer!

 Strawberry “Cocoshake”

Strawberries are amazing at this time of year. Not only do they taste great, but they also contain lots of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. Another awesome summer flavor is Coconut. Coconut is an amazing source of vital lipids. This is what our bodies use to moisturize and hydrate our skin and hair. Together you’ll have a tasty and healthy smoothie that will fill you up for breakfast. To make this smoothie all you’ll need is


½ Cup fresh Strawberries

1 cup coconut milk

1 tbsp pure maple syrup


Add Ice to preferred consistency and taste. Blend all ingredients and mix until smooth.


 Banana Breakfast Shake

Breakfast can be a struggle for a lot of people. Not always because we don’t want to eat, but simply because we don’t have the time! This recipe is super filling and high in protein, good fats and carbs, which is the perfect recipe for fat loss and overall nutrition!


½ cup cottage cheese (low fat variety)

½ cup rice milk (or almond milk/ coconut milk if you prefer)

1 small banana

2 tablespoons walnuts

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of honey


Blend all ingredients and mix until smooth


Green Machine

If you want to kick start your ‘fit for summer’ journey, then you can’t go past an awesome green smoothie. This will kick start your immune system and provide you with the energy you need to get active for summer!


2 cups of spinach leaves

½ ripe banana

15 grapes

2 tablespoons of chopped avocado

1 cup of soymilk (or milk of choice)

Juice of ½ a lemon


Blend all ingredients and mix until smooth

 The ultimate breakfast smoothie

This one is a personal favorite, and is seen most mornings in our house! A perfect breakfast shake with everything you need for your day ahead.


1 Banana

½ cup of frozen berries

1 Scoop protein powder (try chocolate or vanilla flavor for this recipe)

1 Teaspoon of Peanut butter

1 Cup of water

¼ Cup oats


First blend the oats until fine. Then add other ingredients and blend until smooth.

Energizer shake


Try this easy shake for breakfast, you might even find that you can replace your morning coffee with


1 frozen Banana

1 teaspoon of chia seeds

½ cup of coconut water

10 almonds

4 dates


Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add a shot of espresso if you still need your hit of morning caffeine.
